Mijas Golf complex - a golfers paradise
Mijas Golf complex is a very popular complex with two courses. There are a couple of hotels on the complex where you can fine dine or enjoy a drink or two. The complex is just ten minutes from Fuengirola in one direction and La Cala de Mijas in the other, both housing beautiful beaches, and a multitude of shops, bars and restaurants.
The two golf courses include Los Lagos, the oldest, which dates bach to 1976 and its one of the largest on the coast. It is characterized by wide fairways, large raised greens and more than a sprinkling of bunkers. It has a very open feel, however, as trees are sparse and there is only a little rough.
In contrast Los Olivos, is shorter and narrower with nowhere near as much water. It is also more undulating and has more trees. The 2nd hole is a diffiuclt hole and you need to play half a club more than you think and use the bank at the back of the green.
The 7th is a tricky dogleg; short hitters should stay to the right of the fairway but, with the wind behind them, long hitters can easily carry the water. The second shot is played to a green on two levels - be wary of the lake on the left side.
On the final hole take care with your drive. The fairways runs very fast into the trees on the left side. Aim at the bunkers on the right and be prepared for a second shot that is longer than you think over the bunker to the right of the green.
