Frigiliana - a classic charming spanish town
The traditional and the modern live comfortably side by side in this town, with its old Moorish-style streets and houses in the Barrio Viejo and the modern housing estates and villas on the outskirts.
Frigiliana is only a few kilometres away from Nerja which houses some of the best beaches on the Costa del Sol. Frigiliana sits above Nerja and is a charming and spectacular typical white village which has incredible views to the sea and beautiful arab style streets. The village is a tangle of narrow cobbled streets lined by whitewashed houses. There are several excellent shops selling pottery and ceramics and there are a multitude of excellent restaurants.
The heart of Nerja is its spectacular Balcon de Europa, the "Balcony of Europe", a magnificent promenade along the edge of a towering cliff, once the site of the great Moorish castle, with sweeping panoramic views of the Mediterranean and the small coves and beaches below, against an awesome backdrop of hazy blue mountains. There are plenty of restaurants and cafes here to choose from, and the visitor can hire a horse-drawn carriage to explore the most romantic corners of the town.
Frigiliana is best explored by foot. There are several buses a day that run from Nerja or, alternatively, leave your car at the car park at the bottom of the hill.
